This datapack changes the random terrain generation of the Overworld. It aims to improve apon some of the shortcomings of vanilla while feeling like Minecraft.
This is a work in progress!
Terrain Rebalanced is extremely early in development. Feedback on vanilla world generation and on Terrain Rebalanced is greatly appreciated.
Features
- Mountains are rarer but much prettier
- Large cave entrances on the surface have been shrunk
- Large open caves underground still exist
- Elevation changes are more gradual
- Common plateaus are usually smoother, making exploration a bit easier
Mountains
Individual mountains are rare, but make up for their rarity with satisfying peaks and pleasing gradients.

Large mountains are extremely rare, but I believe truly live up to what we all saw back when Caves and Cliffs was first shown off.

In vanilla, you'd see something like 2-8 Ancient Cities under each mountain range. That's a lot. In Terrain Rebalanced, because mountains tend to be few and far apart, Ancient Cities are also rarer. You can still find them under most individual mountains, and you'll find a couple of them under mountain ranges.
Arid biomes
To me, Deserts didn't feel quite right; the pre-1.18-esque hills didn't feel right. With Terrain Rebalanced, deserts are often flat and any incline is gradual. Badlands, however, are identical if not better to vanilla.
