Important: Replace Older Builds
If you still have an older version of Clean & Clear Glass, please delete it before installing the latest release. Older builds contain rendering problems and should no longer be used.
All planned Fabric releases are now available: Minecraft 1.16.5, 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.x, and 26.2.
NeoForge support is planned: Minecraft 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.x, and 26.2. Development is planned to begin after August 1, 2026. NeoForge files are not available yet, and there is currently no estimated release date.
The current releases also include UX improvements, including clearer style selection, a more readable settings screen, and automatic visual updates when settings are applied.
A complete showcase video is planned and will be uploaded to my YouTube channel and added to this project page later.
Clean & Clear Glass (C&CG)
Clean & Clear Glass is a client-side visual mod that makes vanilla glass blocks and glass panes look cleaner, clearer, and visually connected.
The mod keeps the original vanilla blocks and items while replacing their client-side rendering. Connected internal borders are removed while visible outer borders remain intact, creating cleaner windows, glass walls, and large glass structures without adding new blocks or changing gameplay.
Standalone Fabric releases are available for Minecraft 1.16.5, 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.x, and 26.2.
Fabric releases require Fabric API.
Version & Loader Support
| Minecraft Version | Fabric | NeoForge | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 26.2 | Available | Planned | Current release |
| 26.1.x | Available | Planned | Current release |
| 1.21.11 | Available | Planned | Standalone port |
| 1.21.1 | Available | Planned | Standalone port |
| 1.20.1 | Available | Not planned | Dedicated legacy Sodium support |
| 1.16.5 | Available | Not planned | Regular glass with dedicated legacy Sodium support |
These are complete standalone ports, not resource-pack editions. Some settings and technical implementation details differ between versions because Minecraft's rendering system and Fabric APIs have changed over time.
Always download the file that matches both your Minecraft version and mod loader.
Features

Regular Glass Styles
Regular glass blocks, panes, and their item appearance follow the selected style.

Tinted Glass Styles
Tinted glass provides three visual styles on Minecraft versions that include tinted glass. Its block and item appearance follow the selected style.
| Subtle Tinted Glass (Default) | Visible Tinted Glass | Clear Tinted Glass |
|---|---|---|
| Uses a subtle white marks design that keeps tinted glass recognizable without making the surface too busy. | Uses stronger visible white marks so tinted glass is easier to recognize in larger structures. | Removes the white marks for the cleanest view, but may look closer to black stained glass. |

Settings
Clean & Clear Glass includes an in-game settings screen.
Open it with:
Alt + G
The key can be changed in Minecraft:
Options > Controls > Key Binds
If Mod Menu is installed, the settings screen can also be opened from the mod's configuration button.
Available settings include:
- Turn Clean & Clear Glass rendering ON or OFF
- Select Clear or Subtle for Regular Glass
- Select Subtle, Visible, or Clear for Tinted Glass on supported versions
Clear is the default Regular Glass style. Subtle is the default Tinted Glass style.
When settings are applied, the mod automatically reloads the required resources so the selected styles update in-game. The exact settings layout may vary slightly between Minecraft versions.

Compatibility
Clean & Clear Glass implements its connected rendering directly and does not depend on a separate connected-texture mod.
- Fabric API: Required
- Mod Menu: Optional
- Sodium: Optional and supported
- Indium: Not required
- Continuity or CTM: Not required
- OptiFine: Not required
Legacy Sodium Support
Minecraft 1.16.5 and 1.20.1 use dedicated compatibility renderers designed specifically for their older Sodium rendering systems.
- Minecraft 1.16.5: Designed for Sodium 0.2.0 releases
- Minecraft 1.20.1: Designed for Sodium 0.5.13 releases
These renderers allow connected glass to work with Fabric API and Sodium without requiring Indium, Continuity, or another CTM implementation.
Other Sodium versions on these legacy Minecraft releases are not guaranteed to be compatible. Shader-pack compatibility may also vary depending on the shader pack and Minecraft version.
Installation — Fabric
- Install Fabric Loader for your Minecraft version.
- Download and install Fabric API.
- Download the Clean & Clear Glass file that exactly matches your Minecraft version.
- Place Fabric API and Clean & Clear Glass inside your Minecraft
modsfolder. - Launch Minecraft using the Fabric profile.
This mod only needs to be installed on the client. It can be used when joining vanilla servers.
Do not install a NeoForge file into Fabric or a Fabric file into NeoForge. Loader-specific files will be clearly identified when NeoForge support becomes available.
Requirements
- A supported Minecraft version listed in the version table
- Fabric Loader
- Fabric API
- The Java version required by the selected Minecraft version
Mod Menu and Sodium are optional. Indium, Continuity, CTM, and OptiFine are not required.
Resource Pack Alternatives
If you prefer vanilla Minecraft without Fabric, NeoForge, OptiFine, or another mod, try my Glass Without Border resource pack. It works as a standard vanilla resource pack and removes visible borders from glass.
For older or unsupported Minecraft versions, the original Clean & Clear Glass resource pack is also available. That resource pack requires OptiFine for its connected glass features.
If you use one of the supported Fabric versions, download the standalone mod from this page instead. The standalone mod does not require OptiFine.
Notes
Clean & Clear Glass changes the client-side rendering of vanilla glass blocks, glass panes, tinted glass, and their item models. It does not add custom blocks, crafting recipes, or gameplay changes.
The goal is simple: make vanilla glass cleaner, clearer, connected, and more pleasant to use in builds while preserving the original Minecraft experience.
