Music Regions

Music Regions is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 that allows you to create custom regions in your world that automatically play custom music when entered.

Regions are painted directly onto chunks using an in-game editor, allowing you to create cities, kingdoms, dungeons, forests, battlefields, temples, and any other location with its own unique soundtrack.

Unlike vanilla music, Music Regions supports:

• Unlimited custom regions
• Multiple songs per region
• Randomized playback
• Region priorities
• Smooth fade-in and fade-out transitions
• Visual region editing
• Fully customizable music libraries

Features

Region Painting

Instead of manually entering coordinates, regions are painted directly onto chunks.

Features: - Toggle editor mode - Left click to paint chunks - Right click to erase chunks - Adjustable brush radius - Live colored region overlay

Multiple Music Tracks

Each region can contain any number of songs.

Example:

Temple Region: - temple1 - temple2 - temple3 - temple4

When music begins, a random song is selected.

If multiple tracks are available, the same song will not play twice in a row.

Natural Playback

Music Regions behaves similarly to vanilla Minecraft music.

When entering a region:

1. Music fades in.
2. A random track plays.
3. After the song finishes, a random silence period occurs.
4. Another track begins.

This prevents constant uninterrupted music and creates a more natural atmosphere.

Seamless Transitions

When leaving one region and entering another, the previous music smoothly fades out while the new region's music fades in.

No abrupt stops.

Region Priority

Regions can overlap.

Example:

City (Priority 1) Castle (Priority 5)

When inside the castle, only the castle music plays.

When leaving the castle, the city music resumes.

Visual Region Overlay

Each region has its own color.

While editing, every painted chunk is displayed with a colored overlay, making it easy to see exactly where regions begin and end.

Requirements

• Minecraft 1.20.1
• Fabric Loader
• Fabric API

Installation

1. Install Fabric Loader.
2. Install Fabric API.
3. Place Music Regions in your mods folder.
4. Launch Minecraft.

Creating a Region

Create a region:

/music create Egypt

Select it:

/music select Egypt

Enable editor mode:

/music editor

Paint chunks:

• Left Click = Paint
• Right Click = Remove

When finished:

/music reload

Commands

Create Region:

/music create

Creates a new music region.

Select Region:

/music select

List Regions:

/music list

Region Information:

/music info

Displays: - Region name - Number of chunks - Music tracks - Priority - Color

Inspect Current Chunk:

/music inspect

Toggle Editor:

/music editor

Brush Radius:

/music radius

Example:

/music radius 4

Reload Regions:

/music reload

List Available Music:

/music listmusic

Change Region Priority:

/music priority

Change Region Color:

/music color

Example:

/music color FF0000

Adding Custom Music

Step 1:

Place .ogg files inside:

assets/musicregions/sounds/music/

Example:

battle1.ogg battle2.ogg forest_day.ogg temple_theme.ogg

Step 2:

Register sounds inside:

assets/musicregions/sounds.json

Example:

{ "battle1": { "sounds": [ "musicregions:music/battle1" ] } }

Repeat for each song.

Step 3:

Launch Minecraft and run:

/music listmusic

Step 4:

Assign music to a region:

/music addmusic battle1

Recommended Music Format

• OGG Vorbis
• 44.1 kHz sample rate
• Stereo audio
• Normalize volume before exporting

Tips

Use higher priorities for: - Castles - Boss arenas - Dungeons - Villages inside larger kingdoms

Use lower priorities for: - Forests - Plains - General exploration

Known Limitations

• Adding new music currently requires updating sounds.json.
• Fabric only.
• Minecraft 1.20.1 only.
