Show My Maps
Vanilla only draws a map's picture when you hold it. Everywhere else it is a blank roll of parchment: in your inventory, in a chest, in an auction GUI, lying on the ground. This mod draws the real thing instead.
What it does
- Map icons — the slot shows the art in place of the parchment sprite, so a page full of map art reads at a glance. No hovering.
- Tooltip preview — hover a map anywhere a tooltip appears and the picture renders under the normal lines.
- Dropped maps — a map on the ground spins as the art itself.
- Shulker box tooltip — hover a box and see its contents as a slot grid, maps included. Steps aside automatically if you have Shulker Box Tooltip installed.
- HUD widget — keeps one carried map on screen while it stays in your bag. Off by default,
Mtoggles it. - Settings through Mod Menu, or
config/show_my_maps.json. Sizes, corner, and every feature can be turned off.
On servers
Map colours live on the server, and a vanilla server is stingy with them twice over: it paints a map only while you hold it, and it sends colours only for maps you carry or see in an item frame.
- Singleplayer, LAN, or a server with this mod installed — maps in your inventory get painted without being held, and maps in a chest you have open get sent to you.
- A vanilla or Paper server — the client half still runs. Anything the server already sent you previews normally. A map you have never been sent stays blank; no client mod can change that, because the protocol has no way to ask for one.
- Map cache — every map you receive is saved to disk per server, so art you have seen once keeps previewing later, across relogs and dimension changes.
Requirements
Fabric Loader, Fabric API. Client and server; a client-only install still works, with the limits above.
