Villager Panic makes villagers react more realistically to violence and dangerous players.
When a villager is killed by a player, nearby villagers who witness or detect the incident will panic and attempt to survive.
Panic Reactions
Panicking villagers may flee, freeze, or become cornered.
Fleeing
Villagers search for a reachable hiding place and attempt to get indoors.
They can hide inside:
- Houses with beds
- Enclosed profession buildings without beds
- other valid shelters (tree, cave, etc.)
Freezing
Villagers have a 30% chance to freeze after rediscovering the threatening player.
While frozen, they:
- Stand in place
- Face the threatening player
- Visibly shake
- Remain frozen until the player moves far enough out of sight
Cornered Villagers
If a player blocks the entrance/exit to a villager's hiding place, the villager will become cornered and will retreat deeper into the safest corner of the building.
The villager will watch the threatening player and wait for an escape route to become available.
Panicking Behaviour
While panicking, villagers will temporarily refuse to:
- Sleep
- Trade
- Restock trades
- Perform normal village routines
Their normal behaviour returns once the danger has passed.
Lockdown Mode
If a player kills two villagers within the same village, the village enters Lockdown Mode.
During Lockdown Mode:
- All villagers attempt to hide
- Villagers remain hidden until the threatening player leaves the village area
- Hidden villagers may freeze or retreat when discovered
- Iron golems immediately become aggressive toward the threatening player
Adrenaline and Injuries
Whenever a villager is successfully hit, it receives a 2.5-second adrenaline boost.
During the adrenaline period, the villager moves faster regardless of whether it is calm, fleeing, cornered, or in Lockdown Mode.
If the hit leaves the villager below half health, the villager becomes injured. After the adrenaline boost ends, the injured villager moves at half of its normal speed.
Further hits restart the adrenaline period. Fully healing the villager removes the lasting injury slowdown.
